My husband and I chose Wellington College International Hangzhou for our son Ethan because the Wellington values and identities are in line with our expectations for our child. I expect him to grow into a man with a well-rounded personality, strong interpersonal skills and interests in different academic and non-academic fields. The school not only provides world-class education and campus facilities to its pupils, but also incorporates the well-rounded development of pupils within its curriculum, manifested in the school's pastoral system and wellbeing programme. For these reasons, we chose Wellington College International Hangzhou without hesitation.
Though we joined Wellington College International Hangzhou in its founding year, we didn’t feel it operated like a new school. In fact, everything in school ran smoothly from the beginning, which is strong evidence of the school management team’s ability. Our whole family have established a strong sense of belonging in the new community over the past year. The diverse events organised by Wellington College International Hangzhou helped us better immerse ourselves in the community. Also, most parents of Wellington College International Hangzhou share similar values about our children’s education, which makes our community more united.
When choosing a school for Audrey, my husband and I held firm in our expectation that Audrey be able to pursue her fields of interests and develop her own set of personal values. We carefully considered several schools’ educational philosophies and the values they instill in their pupils. The Wellington Values of courage, respect, integrity, kindness and responsibility are exactly the values we want our children to develop. We were drawn to Wellington for how the school encourages pupils to explore and express themselves, develop their self-confidence and shape their individual personalities. By learning how to solve problems, work collaboratively and care for others, we knew Audrey would find her sense of belonging within our family and her school community. Wellington’s unique education philosophy made us confident that our learning expectations for Audrey would be met.
When we were choosing a school in Hangzhou for our three children, we selected Wellington College International Hangzhou because we knew it would be the right place for them where they could access everything they needed. We were impressed by the state-of-the art facilities, including the classrooms, gym, sports fields, science labs, ICT rooms and Performing Arts Centre. We were confident that these facilities would supplement our children's learning of broad theoretical concepts along with a deeper exploration of practical skills through hands-on activities. We were also deeply impressed by the staff services, beginning with the campus tour and the admissions process. The staff at Wellington College International Hangzhou invested great effort in making sure that communicating with us was smooth, even arranging a teacher who speaks Korean to overcome any language barriers. Members of the academic team assumed responsibility for making our children feel comfortable and adapt to their new environment, assuring us that the school would be able to take good care of our children.
This year has been a very special year for several reasons. This year was Claire’s first year of school; she started kindergarten in the United States before joining Year 1 at Wellington College International Hangzhou in October 2019. We were nervous about her moving to Wellington, but she adapted quickly and did very well. Claire really enjoyed the holiday-themed school celebrations held around Halloween, Christmas and Chinese New Year. This year was a new learning adventure for Claire. eLearning was a good experience. Claire enjoyed seeing her classmates every day and interacting with her teachers online. The teachers did exceptionally well and adapted flawlessly to the new online format. We as parents were really impressed with the quality of eLearning that was provided. That being said, though, we are glad that classes have resumed.
