Meet your world at The International
The International Academy and Boarding School of Denmark is the international department of Vedersø Idrætsefterskole and is the only 100% English-speaking efterskole in Denmark. Here students aged 14-17 can combine an international Cambridge IGCSE education with the unique experience of attending a Danish efterskole with its proven qualities within educational and personal development.
At The International – Academy and Boarding School of Denmark, both Danish and international students work towards understanding life in a global context.
The International provides an excellent academic English-speaking learning environment focusing on intercultural competence and awareness, international relations and personal development.
With internationally recognised qualifications through the Cambridge IGCSE system and a choice of Modern Foreign Languages, you can prepare for your future whilst improving your language skills and establishing an international network and friends for life.
The International works closely with its mother school Vedersø Idrætsefterskole to offer students an unrivalled efterskole experience where academic and personal development goes hand in hand.
We welcome all nationalities and our caring teaching and counselling staff prioritise individual student success and well-being throughout the year.
With international partner schools throughout the World, we are proud to be able to offer some of the most interesting and unique study trips available. Each year we have a 2-week World Trip going to for instance a European destination, USA/Hawaii or Australia to visit and stay with our partner schools and experience these beautiful places.
At the beginning of the school year, the whole school goes to a destination in Europe to focus on team building, nature, culture, history and society. It’s a great way to kick off the school year and to build friendships – something we value very much.
We also go on numerous excursions in Denmark and stay a few nights away from the school in both the beginning and the end of the school year when the Danish summer is beautiful and warm with long days and spectacular sunsets – we live right by the west coast of Denmark with beautiful beaches in our backyard which we like to take advantage of as much as possible.
Profile Subjects and Electives
We are proud to be able to offer a wide range of electives within everything from sports to music to crea to languages etc. and we pride ourselves in being open for everyone who has an interest in these electives regardless of their starting level.
Our Profile Subjects include Football, Dance and Badminton which we teach at the highest level with some of the best coaches in Denmark.
The sports electives, in general, are strengthened by the cooperation with Vedersø Idrætsefterskole which is one the leading sports schools in Denmark. We are therefore able to offer unique facilities with two sports halls a huge tumbling centre, a spinning studio, fitness facilities and three football pitches that few other international schools are able to match.
We dare say that we are the unrivalled number one in Denmark in this field and the facilities are available for everyone in their free time, but we are so much more than sports and there is room for everyone.
With us, you will gain global friendships that may last a lifetime.
You will gain a deeper understanding of the world and its many different cultures.
You will develop both personally and academically.

The teachers and the students have a really good connection, which makes it more like a family. We have people here that are from all over the world, and it makes it so much easier to cope with homesickness.
The best thing about TI is the people. It’s a school with a lot of different cultures all combined together, and it’s like we are making our own little culturally accepting community in a little corner of Denmark.
Simply a great school: Its high-level international standards in teaching combined with the unique qualities of a Danish efterskole is such a winner.
Great concept, great school, my son is loving his year abroad. And the concept of sending a kid a getting back a young man or woman seems to be already shining through after four months.
I think Denmark is a very safe place to send young students to. It was an environment, I was happy to send Holly to without me there protecting her. It’s important for young people to travel beyond their own country and see different cultural perspectives to broaden their horizons. Living within a different culture is very different from reading about it.
