Description
Kingswood is a school like no other, with an abundance of outdoor learning space and boundless opportunities. Here we celebrate individuality and uniqueness in an unrivalled woodland setting in one of the safest cities in England.
We are a thriving co-educational day and boarding school welcoming pupils between the ages of 9 months and 18 years, with boarders from age 11. Situated on a magnificent 200-acre site overlooking The World Heritage City of Bath with access to great transport links to London and major airports.
The ethos of Kingswood is very much that of a boarding school with a wide range of opportunities available to all pupils both during the school week and at weekends. Boarders benefit from the advantages which having such strong links with the local community bring, whilst day pupils benefit from the exceptional pastoral care and extensive activity programme which the boarding community is able to provide.
We believe in nurturing young people as individuals, encouraging our pupils to believe in themselves, in helping them to discover new talents and in supporting them to achieve the very highest standards in everything they do. Our central focus will always be on what is best for the individual and a flexible curriculum allows us to respond to individual needs and ensure these important years of secondary education are fun and exciting as well as challenging and formative.
Our extensive co-curricular programme offers over 100 activities a week. On-site activities include early morning yoga, swimming, tennis and cricket, evening floodlit hockey or tennis, PE, community games and music practice. Weekends for Boarders are jam packed with fun-filled activities, combining adventures such visiting Longleat and Cotswold Water Park, with some much-needed downtime to relax and unwind. This is part of our commitment to mental health and children’s well-being and staff are working hard to develop our skills in mindfulness in all our pupils.
The Sixth Form at Kingswood is a supportive and caring environment, offering encouragement and guidance at every step. Our flexible academic curriculum programme is tailored to each student, whilst the breadth of our co-curricular offering means that there is something for everyone, from the extensive co-curricular activities, to Model United Nations and academic societies. We encourage our students to involve themselves in all aspects of school life and to develop the qualities of leadership, independence, self-reliance and respect for others. Service is central to our vision of leadership, and our charitable and mentoring activities provide further opportunities for our Sixth Formers to give back, both locally and further afield.
In this environment, pupils achieve astonishing successes as they constantly progress well beyond their natural potential while also making a real difference to others.
We seek to hold in tension the traditional and the contemporary and we believe that ‘traditional’ subjects such as Mathematics, Science, English, History and Latin should continue to form the backbone of a strong modern education. In addition, we seek to embrace contemporary changes in the curriculum, which is why you will also find subjects such as Computing, Psychology and Economics on offer. You will also find a strong emphasis on learning languages at Kingswood. We believe that learning another language is excellent for the mind, as well as for developing our pupils’ sense of their place in a big world. We are continually seeking to refine our curricula, to ensure that we teach the best concepts at the best times so that we can help our pupils acquire a deep body of knowledge that will serve them for years to come. Although one of our key aims is to ensure that all our students achieve the best grades possible, the learning experience is about so much more than examination success. A successful Kingswood School experience not just provides the essential knowledge and critical thinking for further education, but also the independent skills required to thrive afterwards.

Extra-Curricular
All students are encouraged to participate in a wide a range of co-curricular activities to discover new talents, improve existing skills, work as part of a team and find activities and hobbies that they enjoy which will take them past school and often become lifelong interests. In addition, academic societies, departmental trips and activities that complement the curriculum help students demonstrate a passion for their subjects outside the classroom, which is invaluable for students completing university applications. In our most recent ISI Inspection, the Kingswood co-curricular programme was rated as "excellent". We are passionate here at Kingswood that educating young people is not just about inspiring pupils academically but also giving them a really broad range of opportunities.
Very pleased with my daughter's progress since she joined the senior school last September. The longer school day really benefits her: lessons finish at 4.30pm but she takes part in an after school activity most days including art club, netball and climbing.

I think the school is excellent and we are so glad we chose it. We really appreciate the social aspects, events and all the opportunities we get to watch plays, performances and sporting events. It's a kind, caring and happy environment. We've been very impressed with the emphasis and organisation of sporting events!

We are very happy at Kingswood and more importantly so are our children. We recommend the school to our friends and overall are very happy with the ethos of the school. In particular we want to thank the staff for their unwavering support in bringing out the best in our children. In our opinion the staff are the school

House parents have been hugely communicative and are highly responsive - a real comfort to overseas parents. They seem to genuinely care about the wellbeing of the kids in their care and treat them all as individuals. A really super boarding school.

Kingwood has a reputation among the Bath schools for excellent pastoral care, and, as a parent of a Year 8 pupil, I couldn't be happier with this aspect of the school. It's not at the cost of academic results, however. My son is encouraged to reach his potential and his results are strong.
