Students are challenged to think critically and creatively, write effectively, express ideas persuasively, and collaborate with respect. Outstanding teaching, enriched by a remarkable breadth of offerings, allows students to discover a passion for learning and build skills for college and beyond. As a pioneer in learning support, Cushing strives to meet students where they are and provide them with a powerful toolkit for academic success.
Outside of the classroom, Cushing’s longstanding tradition of excellence in athletics is paired with expansive visual and performing arts departments. Cushing Academy provided an outstanding high school experience for our son and gave him excellent preparation for a very successful university career.
The word "family" comes to mind when we think about why we love Cushing. As difficult as it was to allow our kids to attend a school more than six hours away, it was the sense of family, and home, that made leaving them a little easier each time. We made life long friends at Cushing, all of us, not just the kids. And we have families and faculty that we are still in close touch with!
The education and the experience that both our children received at Cushing Academy was extremely valuable in helping to establish their life foundation and their future individual growth. They were able to start forming their own individual identities, and to develop their own individual inner strength as wonderful human beings. The benefits of a Cushing education have become very evident in their young adult lives.
Cushing certainly provided a solid foundation to be successful. A Cushing student learns to juggle a college-like schedule with gaps during the day that enable you to plan well. You experience these pockets of personal growth all the time. My daughter learned foundational things, like independence, building relationships, teamwork, planning, hard work and more. Leadership comes from these foundations.
Our daughter had an amazing three years boarding at Cushing! Living away from home truly helped her grow in so many ways. She made new friends, played team sports, and received regular support from her teachers, which helped her grow into a more confident and eager student. The independence she experienced and the confidence she gained at Cushing prepared her for the success she is now enjoying at university.
