International and innovative: Bavarian International School (BIS) in Munich-Schwabing and Haimhausen for children aged between 3 and 18.

1,200 students from 56 nations learn at Bavarian International School (BIS) in Munich-Schwabing and Haimhausen. Under the motto “Believe. Inspire. Succeed”, children and students between the ages of 3 and 18 enjoy a pedagogically holistic education. Intercultural competence, collaborative learning, social responsibility and academic excellence characterise the spirit. In times of the Corona crisis, the BIS has transformed itself into a virtual school and offers an exemplary distance learning program (

A first-class teacher-student ratio guarantees tailor-made teaching based on the individual needs and strengths of the children. An expression of the success is the IB Diploma average of 34.3 in 2019 (29.7 worldwide). The BIS represents state-of-the-art education with modern standards such as interactive whiteboards and Apple TV’s, iPads (1:1 programme in grades 4-6), MacBooks (1:1 programme in grades 7-12), science and technology laboratories and design and art studios. DesignTech and Educational Technology have been an integral part of the curriculum for many years. BIS has an extensive extracurricular programme ranging from sports and music to the Eco-schools project, the Model United Nations or The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

Personalised Education

“We provide our students with the intellectual, intercultural, social, emotional and, most importantly, with the critical perspectives they will need as adults in a global, technological world. Our students will be able to solve the challenges of the future and make the world a better place,” says School Director Dr. Chrissie Sorenson. “Each child’s individual development is placed at the very centre of the educational focus at BIS.”

BIS is one of only two schools in Germany authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer all four IB programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP) and the Career-related Programme (CP).

BIS diplomas are recognised by the best universities in Germany and all around the world.
