Descrição

Opened in 1991, Rainbow International School Uganda has grown on to become a school of over 800 students, offering a full English curriculum at all five key stages from Foundation Stage right up to the pre-university level. RISU is a co-educational and multicultural school, with students from around sixty nationalities. A school that strives for academic excellence with a strong belief in the provision of a holistic education, where the specific needs of each individual child really matters. Rainbow International School Uganda (RISU) began in September 1991 as a primary school with 29 children. In September 1995 the school moved to a 9-acre site with purpose-built classrooms to which an administration block was recently added. Since then student numbers have grown steadily and this has been matched by physical development of the facilities and infrastructure. Rainbow has 6 science laboratories, 3 computer rooms with a 24/7 internet connection, 2 music rooms, a hall each in Primary and Secondary, a drama room, 2 art rooms, 2 football pitches, a basketball court, a volleyball court and a 25-metre swimming pool. The school expanded into the provision of A Level in 2000 and today has close to 800 pupils on roll ranging from 21ò2 years old up to University entrance level. RISU follows the guidelines of the National Curriculum for England and we believe in the holistic education and development of each student. The Rainbow curriculum is broad-based and creative, with emphasis placed on a thorough understanding in core subjects: mathematics, science, English and ICT. In addition, our students study humanities, arts and physical education. Investigation, reasoning, problem solving and independent learning are central within this curriculum. Teachers provide a stimulating environment in which to learn and one that encourages an enthusiastic and interested approach to independent learning. Children are encouraged to interact with others to facilitate the learning process and to develop their social skills. We aim to equip each child with a holistic education that will enable him/her to succeed in a rapidly changing world. We have a policy of maintaining small class sizes and strong teacher-child ratios in order to enable each student adequate personal attention and maximize progression. In the primary school, the maximum class size is 24 with a 1:12 ratio. For the youngest children in the Early Years Unit, the adult child ratio is 1:6. The maximum class size is 26 students in the secondary school, with smaller group sizes for many IGSCE and A Level classes. Our teaching programme leads to qualifications at International General Certificate in Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Advanced (A) Level that are recognized by universities and employers worldwide. Through a persistent focus on curriculum development, developing teachers and maximizing learning. We are never complacent about these areas and continually monitor student achievement and our progress as a school. Effective education is also a partnership between school and families, so we endeavor to keep parents well informed of their childÍs progress and hold parent information events in which we share information of the content and methodology of the curriculum. The school also invests in continuing professional development for staff, bringing high caliber specialists to Rainbow from the UK for whole school training and also sending staff overseas for high quality training. In addition to all the above, RISU is a member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and is registered with the Department for Education (DFE) in the United Kingdom. In 2014, the school embarked on a 2-year internal project to attain full accreditation from COBIS.
